The London HBS Club New Venture Contest - Registration Date

extended to close of business 28th February 2010.

“Dragon’s Den” Final in London Set for March 25th.

£1,000 prize for winner of London contest

In collaboration with HBS Alumni Clubs in 8 regions around the world – including the London Club – the Harvard Business School's Arthur Rock Center for Entrepreneurship and Alumni Relations announces the 2010 Alumni New Venture Contest (NVC).

With over half of HBS alumni classifying themselves as entrepreneurs at some point in their lives, this Contest is designed to shine a spotlight on alumni ventures, support promising new ventures and award a $25,000 cash prize to the winning team of the final contest. In addition, every finalist team will receive some mentoring from an HBS faculty member prior to the judging, as well as participate in an educational session on the HBS campus during the Finals.

Local contests will be held in the participating HBS Alumni Clubs – including London - and the winner from each of these local Contests will go on to compete in the final to be held on the HBS campus on 26th April 2010. The London contest is open to all members of the London Harvard Business School Alumni Club, including graduates of both the MBA and Executive Education program living anywhere in Europe.
If you are not concerned yourself but know of a HBS alum who could be interested and eligible please call their attention to this contest.

The final selection from 5 short-listed contenders will take place in London on March 25th  in a “Dragon’s Den” type of event  where the short-listed contestants will present their projects to a series of well known judges.  The event, kindly hosted by NESTA (the National Endowment for Science Technology and the Arts, will determine which of the HBS alum companies will represent the London Alumni Club on the HBS campus on 25th or 26th April 2010, with the London Club assuming reasonable expenses for two participants from the winning company.  NB, the HBS alumni who is part of the founding team MUST be one of the two presenters. There will be a prize of £1000 for the winner of the London contest.

The contest is open only to truly “new ventures” - as opposed to on-going operations – with the requirement that participating teams may not have raised more than $250,000 in total debt and equity capital, and must have less than $250,000 in revenues. Each competing team must have at least one HBS alumnus/a from the club’s region.  The HBS alumnus/a needs to be a substantive member of the founding team, with a senior management or active non-executive role, as well as participation in the company’s equity pool in a manner consistent with that role and position.
